Sir, The Corporate Reporting Users' Forum is right to get its retaliation in early in the latest phase of the debate on how best to report company performance ("More to the bottom line debate than meets the eye", November 1). In its letter to the International Accounting Standards Board and the US Financial Accounting Standards Board, CRUF's strong defence of the need for an earnings number reflects growing concern that operating profits are becoming cluttered by remeasurements of the value of assets and liabilities.
